    Overview

    The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matrutva Abhiyan (PMSMA) has been launched by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India to provide fixed day assured and quality Antenatal care to over 3 crore pregnant women in the country. As part of the campaign, a minimum package of antenatal care services (including investigations and drugs) would be provided to the beneficiaries on the 9th day of every month. If the 9th day of the month is a Sunday/ a holiday, then the Clinic would be organized on the next working day. These services will be provided in addition to the routine ANC at the health facility/ outreach.

    Programme such as the PMSMA represent important milestones in India’s efforts to achieve the 2030 targets of Sustainable Development Goals of MMR less than 70 per 100,000 live births, ending preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 and Neonatal mortality 12 per 1,000 live births in the next 15 years :

    • The programme is based on the premise that if each and every pregnant woman in India is examined by OBGY specialists/ physicians and appropriately investigated at least once during the PMSMA and then appropriately followed up, the Abhiyan can play a crucial role in reducing the number of maternal and neonatal deaths in our
    • To supplement the efforts of the government sector, OBGY specialists/radiologists/ physicians from private sector would be encouraged to provide voluntary services at Public health facilities where government sector practitioners are not available or service provision is inadequate.
    • As part of the campaign, a minimum package of antenatal care services would be provided to pregnant women in their 2nd/ 3rd trimesters at government health facilities (PHCs/ CHCs, DHs/ urban health facilities etc) in both urban and rural
    • While the target is to reach out to all pregnant women, special efforts would be made to reach out to women who have not registered for ANC (left out/missed ANC) and also those who have registered but not availed ANC services (dropouts) as well as High Risk pregnant

    Goal

    The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matrutva Abhiyan envisages improvement in the quality and coverage of Antenatal Care (ANC) including diagnostics and counseling services as part of the Reproductive Maternal Neonatal Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A) Strategy. Govt. of India has launched ambitious “Pradhan Mantri Surkshit Matrutwa Abhiyan” scheme to provide quality health services to needy Preganant Mothers in 2nd & 3rd Trimester. Labortary tests, Sonographic examination, Physicial & abdominal examination by Obsertation, timely diagnosis of high risk mothers, promt referral services are important componants of this campaign on 9th of every month. To implement this campaign effectively, participation of private obstetrician is very much essential. Campagin has already been started in selected eligible Govt. Institutions

    Objectives

    • Ensure at least one antenatal checkup for all pregnant women in their second or third trimester by an OBGY specialist/physician.
    • Improve the quality of care during ante-natal visits. This includes ensuring provision of the following services:
    1. All applicable diagnostic services
    2. Screening for applicable clinical conditions
    3. Appropriate management of any existing clinical condition such as Anaemia, Pregnancy induced hypertension, Gestational Diabetes
    4. Appropriate counselling services and proper documentation of services rendered
    5. Additional service opportunity to pregnant women who have missed ante-natal visits
    6. Identification and line-listing of high risk pregnancies based on obstetric/ medical history and existing clinical conditions
    • Appropriate birth planning and complication readiness for each pregnant woman especially those identified with a risk factor or a co-morbid condition

     

    • Special emphasis on early diagnosis, adequate and appropriate management of women with malnutrition
    • Under chairmanship of District Collector, PMSMA committee is At each district, Quarterly meetings are convened and FOGSI, IMA, Rotary , Lions, Private Nursing homes representive are invited .
    • On 9th of every month, all Volunteers will visit the respective institute & spare their valuable time for provision of expert care to preganant mothers.
