National Viral Hepatitis Programme
Introduction
‘National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme ’ was started in all districts of Maharashtra on 28th July 2019.
There are total 5 types of Hepatitis disease. Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis D & Hepatitis E. Out of the above 5 types Hepatitis B and C are two important types.
Under this programme, 4 Model Treatment Centers (MTC) and 32 Treatment Centers (TC) have been set up in the state. Hepatitis patients are being examined and treated through these centres. Treatment centers has been started in every district for diagnosis and treatment.
Aim:
- Combat hepatitis and achieve countrywide elimination of Hepatitis C by 2030,
- Achieve significant reduction in the infected population,
- Significant reduction of morbidity and mortality associated with Hepatitis A,B, C and E.
Modal Treatment Centres(MTC) / Treatment Centre ( TC ) :
Under NVHCP 4 Model Treatment Center ( MTC) & 32 Treatment Center ( TC) are establish to provide diagnostic and treatment services for Hepatitis..

NVHCP Services
Hepatitis B & C Screening
- Patients on ART
- HRG Hepatitis B Negative Persons ( High Risk Group FSW, Injection Drug user (IDUs), MSM, Transgender, Truckers, Migrants )
- Thalassemia Patient
- Patients on Dialysis
- Hepatitis B or C Positive blood donors (In coordination with SBTC )
- Preoperative patient
- Prisoners ( In coordination with Home Department )
ANC Screening ( with RCH Programme)
- Screening of ANC Pregnant women for Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis B Positive ANC should be referred to DH/WH /SDH/RH where inj HBIG available at the time of delivery for further management ( i.e. New born baby shall received birth dose of Hepatitis B vaccination & Inj HBIG (Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin) immediately within 24 hours after birth to prevent maternal to child transmission of Hepatitis B.
