National Program for Palliative Care (NPPC)
NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR PALLIATIVE CARE
National Program for Palliative Care (NPPC) aims at provide palliative care services to the patients suffered from cancer and other diseases for pain relief, control symptoms to minimize the sufferings. NPPC program was launched in year 2014 in Maharashtra. As of now the program is being implemented in 17 districts of Maharashtra. Under NPPC 159 PHC’s and population of 43,59,027 are covered for the palliative services in these districts.
The program provides funds for Human Resource, drugs and capacity building of the staff to provide palliative services to the patients. Since 2014 to March 2018, total 27755 new patients had been given OPD, IPD and Home visit services.
A Special programs of Palliative are running on pilot basis on PPP Mode at Jawhar and Igatpuri block in Palghar and Nashik districts respectively. In this project, ASHA worker are involved to identify & follow-up of beneficiaries of palliative. In year 2011-18, ASHAs have identified new patients to provide palliative services and on follow-up. The capacity building of the Medical staff is done with state Palliative Care Center, Mumbai.
It is expanded in 8 districts of Maharashtra, (Year of 2021-22) namely Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Nagpur, Jalgaon, Beed, Hingoli, Latur & Thane.
It is expanded in 11 districts of Maharashtra, (Year of 2022-23) namely Akola, Buldhana, Yavatmal, Kolhapur, Sangli, Raigad, Gondia, Dhule, Solapur, Mumbai & Mumbai Suburban

Provide Palliative service
- OPD and IPD services at district hospital . Dedicated OPD days twice a week
- Provision of out-reach services at CHC/PHC/ HWCS by Palliative Care team and trained staff at fixed interval for providing palliative care to the patients admitted at CHC/PHC
- Home-based services and visit by HWC staff
- Establish referral linkages with comprehensive care

- Malignancy, HIV /AIDS,, , Paralysis ( stroke , hemiplegic , Para , Quadriplegia) , Adult Neurological Disorder, Dementia, Alzimers, Parkinson’s, cronic Psychiatric disorder etc., Pediatric Neurological Disorder ( mental retardation , C.P. etc.) Epilepsy, MDR complicated TB, Hematological Disorder Thalassemia, Chronic Sickle Cell, Complicated Leprosy, , Metabolic Disorder , Sever congenital anomalies etc.
