Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP)
Introduction
Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) was launched in November 2004 with support from World Bank till March 2010. The project was restructured and extended up to March 2012. The program is functioning as Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme under National Health Mission (NHM) for all states. A Central Surveillance Unit (CSU) at Delhi, State Surveillance Units (SSU) at all State/UT headquarters and District Surveillance Units (DSU) at all Districts in the country have been established.
Objective of IDSP
- Integrate all existing surveillance activities. ( Public/ Private, DHS/DMER, Urban/Rural)
- Strengthen laboratory services & communication.
- Facilitate automatic transfer of information using modern information technology.
- Strengthen intra/inter departmental coordination.
- Impart capacity for timely response at local, regional & national level for disease control.
- Improve clinical management of targeted diseases.
- Facilitate participation of private sector, NGO, Medical colleges & community in Surveillance.
