The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) launched in 2005, subsequently subsumed under the overarching National Health Mission. With successive years, programs activities, budget allocation and manpower were increased by multi-fold. This has necessitated setting up of effective grievance redressal mechanisms for identifying the concern areas and for effective implementation of approved NHM activities. Grievance Redress Mechanism is part and parcel of the machinery of any administration. It provides important feedback on the working of the administration.
SHS has introduced good governance initiatives by starting a Grievance Redressal cell in Sept 2009 at office premises of State Health society, Mumbai. Over the years, 3 level system has been established to ensure accountable, efficient and effective grievance redressal mechanism.
It is essential to establish user-friendly, prompt and responsive grievance redressal mechanism for effective redressal of complaints. At present, grievances at various levels is received through email, hard copy written application and telephone call via HACC – 104. As depicted above, grievances from district are considered at Circle level, further acknowledged and processed at State level if escalated from district or circle level.
At State level, received grievances are resolved under the guidance of Hon. Commissioner Health Services & Mission Director, NHM, Mumbai and then communicated to the concerned complainant as well as to the Circle level or District level Officers.
