FIRST REFERRAL UNITS (FRU)

Delivery points are identified institutions where regular deliveries are conducted as per norms and definite services are made available. In view of this it was decided to review the district wise existing delivery points and plan for the required numbers. Depending upon the no. of deliveries and services available delivery points are classified into Level-1, Level-2 and Level-3 delivery points. It is desirable that delivery points are distributed uniformly as per population norm and time to care concept. Considering need for operationalization of First referral units(FRU) as per GOI norms, and availability of services provided to beneficiaries coming to health institute, specialists like Gynaecologist, Anaesthetists and Paediatrician are being appointed at identified First referral unit.

Based on population and Time to care concept, 268 FRUs are identified for the year 2024-25. Out of which 215 FRUs are functional up to February 2025 in terms of GOI norm. As on date 161 Gynaecologists, 173 Anaesthetists and 68 Paediatricians are appointed on regular, contract or on call basis at FRUs. Performance of appointed specialists is being monitored on monthly basis in prescribed format.
