    National AYUSH Mission

     

    Introduction                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

    The umbrella term ‘AYUSH’ is the acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. The Department of Indian Systems of Medicine & Homeopathy (ISM&H), established under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India in March, 1995, was renamed as Department of AYUSH in the year 2003. With the aim of utilizing the potential of AYUSH systems in Public Health, Mainstreaming of AYUSH was launched as one of the components of NRHM in 2005 in India & in 2008-09 in Maharashtra. After the formation of Ministry of AYUSH as an independent ministry, National AYUSH Mission has been launched in the country in FY 2014-15. The implementation of mission in the state is in progress.

    Aims and Objectives

     

    • To recreate interest and faith in Indian Systems of Medicine & Homeopathy
    • Mainstreaming of AYUSH and Revitalization of Local Health Tradition under NRHM
    • Restructure the delivery mechanism of AYUSH systems to make them responsive to the needs of people
    • All AYUSH institutions to be strengthened with necessary infrastructure like building, equipment, manpower etc.
    • Co-locate AYUSH facilities with those of Modern Medicine hospital for providing choice of treatment to the patient
    • Encourage & facilitate in setting up of specialty centres and AYUSH clinics at PHC, CHC & DH eg. Panchkarma, Ksharsutra etc
    • Integrate and mainstream AYUSH in all health care delivery system including NHPs
    • Disseminate the tried and tested concepts and practices of the Indian Systems of Medicine & Homeopathy
    • To promote the AYUSH systems with full emphasis on quality
    • Training of AYUSH doctors and paramedical staff
    • Involvement of ASHA and ANM in AYUSH
    • To established integrated Ayush Hospital in Maharashtra
    • To established Ayush Health and Wellness center at block/village level in Maharashtra

     

    Implementation Strategies

     

    Under the strategies to implement the component ‘Mainstreaming of AYUSH’ under NRHM, AYUSH services provided at all the levels of Government health facilities are as follows:

    1. District AYUSH Cell- To monitor the programme at district level, District AYSUH Cell has been established at 34 District Head Quarters. This cell is responsible for to implement the National AYUSH Mission and monitoring & evaluate the programme on target basis, then to collect the data in monthly basis by to arrange the monthly review meeting of concerns and forwarding it to State. This cell is supported by computer, printer and furniture. Following officers look after the District AYUSH Cell:

    4. Co-location of AYUSH Services at District Hospital Level- AYUSH Services is provided in 23 Districts Hospitals through “AYUSH Wing”. Human resource structure at District Hospitals for AYUSH wing is as follows:
    5. Ayurved Doctor- PG- 1 and UG- 1
    6. Homoeopathy Doctor- PG- 1 and UG- 1
    7. Unani Doctor- PG- 1 and UG- 1
    8. Pharmacist – 1
    9. Yoga & Naturotherapist – 1
    10. Masseur cum Attendant – 1 Male and 1 Female

     

    Renovation and Repair of existing building is made and equipment are also provided by this fund. OPD, IPD and Specialized services like Panchkarma, Kshrasutra, Illaj-bid-tadbir, Yoga practices are also provided by AYUSH wing.

    1. Co-location of AYUSH Services at Women Hospital Level- AYUSH services are provided to female patients in 8 Women Hospitals.

    Pattern of Human resources at Women Hospitals for AYUSH wing is as follows:

    1. Ayurved Doctor- PG 1 (Female)
    2. Yoga & Naturotherapist – 1 (Female)
    3. Masseur cum Attendant – 1 (Female)
    4. Co-location of AYUSH Services at Sub District Hospital/ Rural Hospital Level- Total 77 SDH and 153 RH are facilitated with AYUSH Services according to the local demand. OPD as well as IPD services of Ayurved, Homoeopathy and Unani system are provided in these Sub-District and Rural Hospitals under Mainstreaming of AYUSH.

    6. Homoeopathy Doctor – Graduate (1)
    7. Unani Doctor – Graduate (1)
    8. Medicine Supply – Supply of AYUSH Medicine is made from the grants received from Dept. of AYUSH, Government of India, New Delhi
    9. Additional activities – AYUSH Doctors are also involved in IEC activities. They are utilized for supportive supervision of ASHA Programme and other National Health Programmes.       National Ayush Mission

      After the establishment of an independent Ministry of AYUSH in the year 2014, a National AYUSH Mission was launched in the state of Maharashtra in the year 2014-15.

      Sanctioned Manpower under National AYUSH Mission-

      State Program Management Unit (State Level) (SPMU)-

      An independent “State Program Management Unit” has been set up for AYUSH at the state level with funds received from the Central Government. The following manpower is sanctioned in the said ward.

      1. a) State Program Manager-1
      2. b) AYUSH Consultant- 2
      3. c) Finance Manager-1
      4. d) Account Manager- 1
      5. e) HIMS Manager- 1
      6. f) Data Entry Operator- 1

       

      National Ayurveda Day: National Ayurveda Day is celebrated every year on Dhanvantari Jayanti. Accordingly, lectures/camps are organized at AYUSH Institutes as well as AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers.

      International Day of Yoga: Every year International Day of Yoga is celebrated on 21st June in all the districts as well as at the State level. Various lectures, camps and Yoga demonstrations are being organized in the districts in coordination with renowned Yoga organizations in the month of June.

      International Homoeopathy Day: International Day of Homoeopathy is celebrated every year on 10th April. All 261 AYUSH health institutes arranged experts lectures on Homoeopathy/Camps etc.

       

      International Unani Day: World Unani Day is celebrated on 11th February every year. Accordingly, interpretations are conducted by Unani experts in 261 institutions in the state.

       

      National Naturopathy Day: National Naturopathy Day is celebrated in India every year on November 18th, to promote positive mental and physical health through drug-free therapy.
