Telemedicine
Preamble –
Telemedicine is a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine where medical information is transferred via telephone, the Internet or other networks for the purpose of consulting, and sometimes remote medical procedures or examinations.
Aims & Objectives –
- To provide expert consultation to patients in remote areas.
- Video conferencing facility for online consultation.
- To provide continuing medical education for Medical and Para Medical staff.
Telemedicine in Maharashtra –
- Telemedicine services were started in the year 2007-08. Currently Telemedicine Service is available at 24 district hospitals, 37 sub-district hospitals and 13 rural hospitals. All the hospitals were connected to the 6 medical colleges through internet services and other technical devices.
- Under Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Teleconsultation service has been started in the year 2019-20 at Ayushman Arogya Mandir (sub-centres, primary health centres and primary health centres in urban areas, Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir. Teleconsultation Facility has been started as HUB and Spoke Model.
- Ayushman Arogya Mandir (sub-centres, primary health centres and primary health centres in urban areas, UAAM) have been termed as Spoke and Hubs have been the district hospitals. The hub is attended by five MBBS medical officers and three specialist medical officers (Gynaecologist, Physician and Paediatrician). The Community Health Officer of Sub Centre and Medical Officer of PHCs and UPHCs, UAAMs are taking an Opinion from the District Hospital HUB.
- The MOHFW has shortlisted a telemedicine application called e-Sanjeevani for all of the country to start Teleconsultation services. This application is developed by C-DAC, Mohali.
- Under Ayushman Arogya Mandir Teleconsultation, Currently 11,870 (8405 SC-AAM, 1894 PHC AAM, 742 UPHC-AAM and 829 UAAM) Health Facilities are Using Teleconsultation Services in state.
Telemedicine Patient Referred
eSanjeevani OPD
eSanjeevani OPD online telemedicine Service has been launched in the state in April 2020. Through this service, patients consult directly with Doctors from home. Through this service, patients can communicate with the Doctors about all the ailments. Also, patients suffering from Covid 19 epidemic who are undergoing treatment at home or isolated patients can also avail this service. Through eSanjeevani OPD service for 6, 69,671 Patients has received an Opinion from the General, Specialist Doctors. Currently General cum Covid OPD, Specialist OPD (Dental Dermatology, ENT, General Physician, General Surgery, Gynaecologist, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Psychiatry), and AYUSH (Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy) OPD is going on under e-Sanjeevani OPD. All the District Hospitals, Sub-District Hospitals, Rural Hospitals and Super Speciality Hospitals Doctors in the State are registered in the e-Sanjeevani OPD Application.

– Patients can Use https://esanjeevani.mohfw.gov.in/# web link to take advice from the doctors.
– Android mobile holders can also consult the medical authorities by visiting the play store to downloading the eSanjeevani OPD application.
- E-Sanjeevani OPD Online Time: –
– Monday to Sunday (9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 1:45 PM to 5:00 PM (Everyday)).
